About the speaker:
Chuck Dorman is an accomplished healthcare executive with over four decades of experience in healthcare administration, education, and clinical care. As the current Director of Outreach at HealtHIE Nevada, a role he has held since March 2019, Chuck is responsible for advancing the use of health information exchange (HIE) technology across Nevada.
Chuck's extensive background includes serving as the Vice President of Operations at Insight Oncology and as the Executive Director at the UCSD Nevada Cancer Institute. His noteworthy tenure at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) highlights his capacity for leadership and innovation in healthcare management. Chuck was the CEO of the Wilmington Delaware VA Healthcare System from 2008 until his retirement. During his leadership, he successfully overhauled care delivery, which included the construction of new primary care clinics and major renovations at the medical center. His strategic improvements led to a notable increase in quality performance metrics and earned the hospital recognition as one of the nation’s best by JCAHO in 2011.
Prior to his work in Wilmington, Chuck was both the COO and later CEO of the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, the largest VA entity in the country. Under his guidance, the system managed care for over 80,000 veterans and saw significant financial growth through non-traditional funding initiatives. His efforts included securing over $200 million in additional revenue and orchestrating a major $250 million construction project for a new State Veterans Nursing Home.
Chuck is a Registered Dietitian and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, reflecting his deep commitment to professional excellence and ethical healthcare management. His academic credentials include a Master of Science in Human Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University and a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition Services from California State University-Long Beach.
Beyond his professional achievements, Chuck's career is marked by a proactive approach to healthcare delivery, emphasizing the right blend of quality, access, and cost-effective care. Chuck’s leadership extends to fostering a culture of integrity and excellence, ensuring that each organizational change or initiative he leads not only meets immediate healthcare needs but also sets the foundation for sustainable health improvements.
